By the Numbers: Inside Out of the Box & What Makes Our Inventory Unique
A Season of Change—And Constant Discovery
It’s the second week of October, and we’re fully into autumn.
Leaves are turning shades of amber and gold, the air feels different, and homes begin to shift toward warmth and comfort. It’s a natural time to reflect—not just on the season, but on what fills our spaces.
At Out of the Box, that reflection often leads us back to one thing: the ever-changing nature of our inventory.
Because unlike traditional retail, what we carry is constantly evolving—and that’s what makes every visit different.
By the Numbers: What’s in the Store Right Now
We’re often asked what we have in stock.
The honest answer? It changes all the time.
But here’s a snapshot that says a lot:
We currently have 150 chandeliers on display.
That’s not a curated “collection”—it’s a constantly rotating mix of styles, sizes, materials, and eras. And it’s a perfect example of how dynamic our inventory can be .
A Quick Look Back: How It All Started
Out of the Box began in Lincoln, Nebraska, founded by Jody Strauch and Steen Lundberg.
For nearly eight years, the store served customers from the historic Armstrong Furniture building before the opportunity came to expand.
That next chapter brought them to the Omaha area—specifically, a historic granary in Ralston.
With over 20,000 square feet, four main showrooms, and an expansive basement, the space offered something unique: room to create, display, and inspire.
After more than a year of renovation, Out of the Box reopened—and has now been thriving there for over five years.
What Makes Our Inventory Different
Unlike traditional furniture stores, we don’t order inventory in bulk.
We source it.
From luxury homes, designer spaces, and unique opportunities, each piece is selected individually. That means:
- No mass production
- No large quantities of the same item
- No predictable inventory
Instead, you’ll find a constantly changing mix of one-of-a-kind pieces.
Categories That Tell the Story
Walking through the showroom, you’ll see a wide range of categories—each with its own personality.
Lighting That Leads the Way
With over 150 chandeliers alone, lighting is one of the most expansive categories in the store.
From crystal statement pieces to brass and modern fixtures, lighting sets the tone throughout the showroom.
Furniture That Anchors Every Space
Large-scale pieces like dining tables, coffee tables, and cabinetry define each vignette.
A solid wood dining table with brass inlay, for example, combines craftsmanship with visual impact—perfect for anchoring a room.
Mirrors That Expand & Reflect
Oversized mirrors with detailed frames—whether antiqued silver or wood with leather and brass inlay—help open up spaces while adding texture and design.
Functional Pieces with Elevated Design
Vanities with stone tops, handcrafted sinks, and unique storage pieces show how function and design can work together seamlessly.
Art & Objects That Add Personality
From original paintings to handcrafted masks and sculptural décor, these are the pieces that bring individuality into a space.
Standout Pieces Worth a Second Look
Among the many items currently in-store, a few examples highlight the range and quality you’ll find :

- A custom bamboo coffee table with oversized proportions and storage
- A Rob Roy “Water’s Edge” table with seashell detailing and sculptural base

Each piece is unique—and once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Why Inventory Changes Matter
Because our inventory is constantly rotating, timing matters.
Shopping more often means:
- Seeing new arrivals first
- Finding one-of-a-kind pieces before they’re gone
- Discovering unexpected items you didn’t know you needed
It turns shopping into an experience—not just a transaction.
